Laura Bennett was picked from over 200 entries to become one of the two new sponsored riders. Find out what makes Laura so special below…
I’m laura I’m thirty (and a bit) years old. I have been riding since I was 2 years old and spend much of my childhood in Scotland using my pony as a mode of transport to and from school. Honey Bunny lived with us until the ripe old age of 30 and even made a guest appearance at my wedding in 2010.
I was an active member of the wyre forest pony club and represented the club at all levels including the Eventing pony club championships with great success. I have always loved cross country and got the Eventing bug after several seasons hunting both mine and several other people’s horses. I was then helpfully guided by a lovely instructor to give Eventing a go!
I have bought all my horses on from babies and have juggled this around education and now a full time job. In my spare time I loved nothing more than rounding sheep up on our family farm and teaching many pony club riders at rallies, camps and clinics.
My biggest loves are the outdoors and my two faithful mascots and sidekicks Roxy and Frankie sausage dogs.
HOW MANY HORSES DO YOU OWN?
I currently have 2 horses: Sadie and Rosie
Sadie is a 16.2hh wb x tb who is 9 years old. She loves cross country and jumping and is the sweetest mare around the yard to do, even with my 3 year old niece phoebe. I almost gave up riding after a bought of bad luck and a tragic loss of my young horse in a freak accident. Then along came Sadie… She was a green but very willing five year old and together we have moved from BE 90 up to Novice and hope to compete this year in our top hat and tails. She is such an amazing horse who can turn her hoof to anything and tried her heart out for me. I feel very privileged to own her.
Rosie is a 16hh (when on tiptoes) sports horse who has competed up to intermediate level and several 1*. Highlights include, winning best mare at Homme House Horse Trials in the novice and coming 2nd at the British riding club Eventing champs. She is now doing a great job as a school mistress for a young lady that comes and helps me out. She loves nothing more than going fast and rounding up the sheep whilst chasing my husband on the quad. A truly lovely mare who likes her own space and you have to earn your right to have kisses from her
HOPES FOR 2017:
Hope to compete in my top hat and tails on Sadie this year doing our first 1*and do some British Dressage with both horses during the winter months.
FAVOURITE HARDY ETC PRODUCT:
Hardy Etc is an efficient, well run and very helpful family business who are always happy to go the extra mile to help their customers. I would recommend them to anyone wanting unique and stylish cross country colours for an amazing price.
My favourite hardy product has to be the cross country colours but I think the jodhpurs are so comfy and I can’t wait to try them out.
SOMETHING YOU MAY NOT KNOW ABOUT ME.
We have just come back from an amazing weekend at the grassroots Eventing Championships where we came 5th. A funny story is that during Sadie’s arena familiarisation she obviously felt quite at home and decided to pick up a large plant pot full of flowers and proceeded to swing it round whilst I was talking to another competitor. This obviously spooked another horse and sent it into orbit. Leaving me highly embarrassed, trying not to laugh, whilst also apologising to everyone she has upset.
Roxy and Frankie team mascots.
Laura competing Sadie at Riding Club Championships coming 3rd in April 2017.
