Jess Storrar was picked from over 200 entries to become one of the two new sponsored riders. Find out what makes Jess so special below…
Hi I’m Jess, I’m 26 and I event and Showjump my 2 horses. I work full time as an equine vet nurse and fit in as much training and competitions as I can around work! I have always been mad about riding since I was very young but never had my own horse until I was 17 (an ex race horse!) and only really stated riding competitively in my 20’s. After dabbling in the eventing field I decided a few years ago to get a youngster to break and bring on as an eventer.
HOW MANY HORSES DO YOU OWN?
Currently have 2 horses: Hector and Jelly
Hector, I came across Hector on Facebook pictured as a scruffy 3 year old in the field. Something caught my eye and I went to see him and instantly fell in love. He was the easiest horse to break and has loved being ridden since day 1. He took to eventing really well and we’ve flown up the levels over the past 4 years. A big highlight was qualifying for and competing at badminton last year in the Mitsubishi motors cup. Since then, we have stepped up to novice and completed a few CIC*s. We have an exciting year ahead with our first intermediate, CCI*, and hopefully CIC** planned.
Jelly, I also compete regularly with another horse called jelly in Showjumping. She came to me just after I bought Hector labelled “unrideable”. After a tricky first few months we discovered she really liked to jump and went from strength to strength. We are currently competing in newcomers and foxhunter classes with the aim of qualifying for newcomers second rounds for next year and stepping up to 1.30 shortly after. I can’t say I have a favourite I love doing what I do with both of them and I think they love it as much as I do.

FAVOURITE HARDY ETC PRODUCT:
I’m really excited to be a part of Hardy Etc as I think they are creating unique, innovative and really smart riding gear!

SOMETHING YOU MAY NOT KNOW ABOUT ME.
Although 90% of the time Hector is an angel he does have an evil twin side and had developed a trick when you’re untacking him he has learnt if he’s quick enough he can whip round and run away! He recently did this to me at Chatsworth in the lorry park AFTER we’d been cross country when he’s SUPPOSED to be tired!! He galloped past all the Mary kings and Andrew Nicholsons with his bridle flapping around his legs! Mortified wasn’t the word.
